Video recording of an interview with John Murray in Mallaig on 27 April 2010. John tells how he came to apply for the post of Harbourmaster in Mallaig in 1968 and recalls the early organisation of the Mallaig Harbour Authority. He discusses rules about herring landings at Mallaig and the role of the Mallaig & North West Fishermen's Association and talks of problems resulting from the relocation of the ice factory adjacent to Jary's Wharf. He explains the 'pools' system used to even out auction prices for herring and problems organising landings when the harbour was being rebuilt. Movement of lorries in and out of the harbour and along the Fort William road. Financing the operation of the harbour from tax on herring landings.
